چکیده

We reply to the recent criticism by Garriga and Tanaka of our proposal that quantum gravitational loop corrections may lead to a secular screening of the effective cosmological constant. Their argument rests upon a renormalization scheme in which the composite operator (R √−g − 4Λ√−g )ren is defined to be the trace of the renormalized field equations. Although this is a peculiar prescription, we show that it does not preclude secular screening. Other important points are: (1) gauge dependence does not render a Green’s function devoid of physical content; (2) scalar models on a non-dynamical de Sitter background (for which there is no gauge issue) can induce arbitrarily large secular contributions to the stress tensor; (3) the same secular corrections appear in observable quantities in quantum gravity; and (4) the prospects seem good for deriving a simple stochastic formulation of quantum gravity in which the leading secular effects can be summed and for which the expectation values of even complicated, gauge invariant operators can be computed at leading order. Effective Field Theory for Massive Gravitons and Gravity in Theory Space

We introduce a technique for restoring general coordinate invariance into theories where it is explicitly broken. This is the analog for gravity of the Callan-Coleman-WessZumino formalism for gauge theories. We use this to elucidate the properties of interacting massless and massive gravitons. For a single graviton with a Planck scale MPl and a mass mg, we find that there is a sensible effectiv...

0 Electromagnetic and gravitational decay of the Higgs boson

The decays of a scalar particle, of either parity, into two photons or into two gravitons are evaluated. The effective interactions are of the form φFF, φF F̃ or φRR, φRR̃; in particular, Higgs boson decay into gravitons cannot be adduced to an interaction φR, as has been recently claimed. 12.10.Gq, 12.10.Dm, 12.15.Ji, 12.25+e Typeset using REVTEX 1 In a very recent paper, Srivastava and Widom [1...

Spontaneous Breaking of Lorentz-Invariance and Gravitons as Goldstone Particles

We consider some aspects of spontaneous breaking of Lorentz Invariance in field theories, discussing the possibility that the certain tensor operators may condensate in the ground state in which case the tensor Goldstone particles would appear. We analyze their dynamics and discuss to which extent such a theory could imitate the gravity. We are also interested if the universality of coupling of...

Quantum state correction of relic gravitons from quantum gravity

The semiclassical approach to quantum gravity would yield the Schrödinger formalism for the wave function of metric perturbations or gravitons plus quantum gravity correcting terms in pure gravity; thus, in the inflationary scenario, we should expect correcting effects to the relic graviton (Zel'dovich) spectrum of the order of (λ/m 2 P l). These, on the other hand, could possibly be measured i...

If the cosmological constant Λ can not be neglected, we will show in this short report, that graviton should have a rest mass mg = √ 2Λ = √ 2Λh̄c−1 different from zero.
